Ingenium Books to Publish Former Sports Reporter’s Memoir About Covert Abuse

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Toronto, ON, Thursday, July 3, 2025 — Former TV sports reporter Kathy Kovacs has signed with Ingenium Books to publish her first book. Deeply personal and unflinching, Under the Glass Table is a memoir that offers a unique and validating perspective on covert abuse, giving a voice to those who have felt unseen and unheard.

Kovacs, once a familiar face on Vancouver Television, shares the shocking truth behind the beaming smile viewers came to recognize. Her memoir reveals the harrowing psychological control and emotional abuse she endured behind closed doors—abuse made all the more insidious because it was hidden in plain sight.

Having experienced the devastating effects of covert abuse despite having a strong support system, education, and financial independence, Kovacs underscores the epidemic nature of this issue. “Our society continues to downplay emotional and verbal abuse,” she notes. “I want to shine a light on how difficult this kind of abuse is to identify and prove—and how often it is discounted at the victim’s expense.”

Kovacs’ memoir aims to fill a critical gap in literature on abuse, moving beyond clinical definitions to illuminate the day-to-day realities and crazy-making tactics of covert control. “I want readers to go, ‘Aha! This is exactly what’s happening to me, only I couldn’t put a finger on it,’” Kovacs explains. “I want women reading this to know they are not alone, that they are not crazy, and that what’s happening to them is real.”

“From the very first page, Kathy’s memoir draws the reader in as if they’re right there with her, sharing all the emotions she was feeling through the course of her relationship,” says Boni Wagner-Stafford, publisher at Ingenium Books. “And because the reader will experience it in the same way a victim of covert abuse does, they will hopefully gain a better understanding of the dynamics and the effects of this kind of abuse. We are honoured that Kathy chose Ingenium Books to help her tell this important story.”

Under the Glass Table is slated for release in November 2025.
