Award-Winning Author to Publish Second Book With Ingenium Books

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Toronto, ON, Wednesday, April 16, 2025 – Award-winning author Tricia Jacobson is set to publish her second book with Ingenium Books. Her new book will be called Praying for Clean.

Praying for Clean will be a radical change of genre for Jacobson, whose YA novel Nova: The Courage to Rise was a winner at the International Impact Book Awards and the Firebird Book Awards in 2021. This time, she writes about the highly personal and painful experience of dealing with her sister’s addiction to drugs.

“I had a dream about writing this book, and woke at 2:00 a.m., knowing I needed to,” Jacobson said. “I didn’t want to go through another book writing process, but I knew I was called to write it. I just had strong conviction to write our story to help others who were in a similar set of shoes that I was in with my sister.”

Jacobson’s older sister, a star student and athlete, became addicted to drugs as a teen. This, combined with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, led to her life spiralling completely out of control. The impact on her family was profound, with Jacobson even adopting her newborn niece, knowing that her sister wouldn’t be able to take care of the baby when she couldn’t even take care of herself.

Praying for Clean is a book I wish I had in my twenties and thirties, when we were in the thick of it with my sister and her addiction battle,” Jacobson said about her reasons for writing this memoir. “Loving someone battling addiction, resilience, tough love and redemption were all driving forces. I also wanted to include more of my faith in this book, and share the important aspect of redemption.”

Beyond being an author, Jacobson is an entrepreneur, child advocate, and co-host of The Matriarchs’ Podcast. She is the founder of 816Loved, a nonprofit based in Kansas City, Missouri, with the mission of providing girls and young women with the resources and tools they need to thrive.

“We are delighted to work with Tricia again,” Ingenium Books publisher Boni Wagner-Stafford said. “We know that writing a second book isn’t easy, especially when it’s so different from your first book. But we also believe in the importance of helping Tricia share her story. Our hope is that readers will gain a better understanding of how to cope when a loved one becomes entangled in the snare of drugs, and become more compassionate towards those who are struggling.”

Praying for Clean is slated for release in summer 2025.
