#1 WSJ Bestseller Examines Adoption Trauma & Identity

For Immed. Release :  #1 WSJ Bestseller Examines Adoption Trauma’s Impact On Identity

(Hartford, CT, July 7, 2023)

Recycled: A Reluctant Search for True Self Through Nurture, Nature, and Free Will was published by Ingenium Books on Father’s Day, 2023.

Today, it appears on the prestigious Wall Street Journal Bestseller list, taking the first spot: #1 in the Non Fiction E-Books category!

In the short time since it was released, this compelling new book that shines a personal lens on adoption trauma has already had an incredible impact.

In the book,  Dr. Jack Rocco, an orthopedic surgeon, examines the role adoption trauma has had on his life and continues to have on the lives of other adoptees.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1966, Jack grew up knowing he had been adopted. His story is like those of a lot of other adoptees in the 1960s, known as the Baby Scoop era: He didn’t look like anyone else in his family; he didn’t share expressions or mannerisms with any of them. He became a master chameleon trying to fit in, never quite feeling like he did.

The only thing he had been told about his biological parents was that they were young college students who couldn’t afford to keep a child. It wasn’t until he was thirty years old that he learned the real story.

In the book, Jack explains how he found his birth mother, and that what she told him about his birth father changed everything about who Jack thought he was, sending him on a reluctant and subconscious quest to discover who he really was. “Recycled” explores the impact of being relinquished and adopted, and how secrets—even well-intentioned ones—can shatter decades of trust.

Later in life, he decided to examine the role that being relinquished at such a young age played in making him into the man he is.  He shares his journey of self-discovery in his memoir, Recycled: A Reluctant Search for True Self Through Nurture, Nature, and Free Will.
