Under the Glass Table
How I Survived Coercive Control, Emotional Abuse, and the Man Everyone Adored
By LC McRae
You never know what someone is surviving—until they tell you.
To the world, LC was the picture of poise—a charismatic sports reporter with a radiant smile and a rising career. But behind the scenes, she was trapped in a harrowing relationship.
In Under the Glass Table: How I Survived Coercive Control, Emotional Abuse, and the Man Everyone Adored, LC peels back the glossy veneer of public life to reveal the chilling reality of her private one: years of psychological manipulation, hidden abuse, and terrifying violence at the hands of her partner, a former champion athlete.
From the moment their whirlwind romance began, LC was drawn into a web of control and coercion. As her world narrowed, her voice was silenced, and the abuse turned physical, LC began to document the truth no one wanted to see.
Told with unflinching honesty and courage, this gripping memoir is a powerful reminder that strength doesn’t always roar—it often whispers, plans, and finally escapes.
If you’ve ever doubted your instincts, felt gaslit by someone you trusted, or questioned your own worth in the name of love—LC’s story will resonate and inspire.
I am lying on the pinky beige carpet in our family room, stuck under our coffee table, peering up at a man I no longer know, wondering what he’s about to do to me.
I am scared. This is his Vegas tantrum all over again. But this time, I am recording it.
I’ve been angry many times before, but tonight, I decide I am going to take a stand. I promise myself I’ll fight for me and for those two young boys who have somehow defied the odds of the universe by staying asleep through this insanity.
