FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Toronto, ON, Monday, September 22, 2025 — Russian Canadian writer Anna Meshcherova has signed with Ingenium Books to publish her new novel. In the spirit of works by Matt Haig and Elizabeth Gilbert, Beneath My Name (working title) explores what happens when you abandon everything—career, love, identity—to ask what truly matters.
“I wrote this book after realizing that the life I’d spent years building—successful career, financial stability, the supposedly right milestones—no longer felt meaningful,” Meshcherova said about the catalyst for writing Beneath My Name. “It was as if I’d followed a script without ever stopping to ask if I believed in it. Around me, I saw others doing the same: chasing status, security, appearances, yet aching for something more. This novel is about what happens when you stop chasing what you’re supposed to want and start asking what truly matters. It’s for anyone who’s ever looked at their so-called dream life and quietly wondered, Is this really it?”
Meshcherova, who has worked as a cultural journalist and currently serves as Vice President of Marketing and Communications for global academic institution Woolf, was born in Moscow, is a dual citizen of Russia and Canada, and is fluent in four languages. She has published poetry in Russia and wrote her first novel, which remains unpublished, while living in Mexico City. She wrote Beneath My Name after she moved to Montreal.
“The novel is a meditation on meaning in a culture that keeps us distracted,” Meshcherova said. “It’s an inquiry into happiness in a world that confuses comfort with fulfillment. I wrote this book because I had to. I needed to understand why we wake up every day and go through the motions of being human.”
“If you’ve ever wanted to burn your life down and start over, Beneath My Name is for you,” Boni Wagner-Stafford, Ingenium Books publisher, said. “It’s a novel for seekers, escape artists, and the quietly brave. Think Eat, Pray, Love meets Breaking Bad. We’re excited to share this powerful and transformative story with readers.”
Beneath My Name is slated for publication in spring 2026.
