You and Me
By Scott Godwin
A searing meditation on love, memory,
and loss.
When an early-morning winter run in rural Ontario turns into an unthinkable tragedy, one man is left to grapple with the violent, senseless loss of the partner who defined his world. As he mourns, memory unfurls: the moment they met in a city gym in 2011, the slow burn of intimacy, the awkward first date, the deep conversations, and the quiet rituals that formed the core of their thirteen-year bond.
Told with aching vulnerability and nonlinear precision, You and Me explores the emotional architecture of a relationship shaped by queer identity, trauma, and the passage of time. It examines how masculinity is learned, unlearned, and reshaped in the presence of love—and what it means to age alongside someone who sees you fully.
Devastating and tender in equal measure, this is a novel that lingers long after the final page. For anyone who has ever loved, lost, and struggled to carry on, You and Me is a profoundly resonant testament to what remains.
You and Me is Scott Godwin’s unforgettable debut novel—a haunting and deeply lyrical portrait of a relationship.
With the glow of my light, I could make out just enough to see that he was looking over his shoulder at me, his hair wet from the snow, his cheeks flushed, smiling playfully, encouraging me to catch him. I hated that I couldn’t, and felt resentful for a moment. We belonged next to each other, and I was falling behind. He’d assure me I was wrong, but we both knew it was happening in more ways than I wanted to admit. I willed myself to push harder, attempting to silence the voice in my head telling me that he’d be better off going on without me.

About Scott
A forty-something daydreamer who grew up in Kemptville, Ontario, then lived in Kingston, Ottawa, and Toronto, Scott Godwin now co-owns the award-winning Bubba & Bugs Coffee Bar in his hometown. He worked as a model, actor, and agent before deciding it was time to finally sink his teeth into writing.
Scott lives in Kemptville with his husband and business partner, Luc. Any down-time he has is spent writing, reading, and hiding out in the backyard with the couple’s two dogs, Moose and Sweet Pea.
Writing has finally given me the outlet to flourish and to encourage the fifteen-year-old queer kid who survived rural living through his daydreams, to put those daydreams to paper and to tell himself, “Yes, you can.”
